Copeton Dam

Lake Copeton is on the Gwydir River between Inverell and Bingara in NSW. It is recognised as one of the nation's best inland fisheries with big Murray Cod being the main feature.

Copeton Dam holds three times the volume of Sydney Harbour and is a fisherman's delight with species such as yellow belly, murray cod, catfish, redfin and silver perch in plentiful supply. There is an unlimited amount of things to do at Copeton Waters State Park.  Fun for every member of the family including:

  • Swimming & Fishing: A very popular fishing spot amongst anglers.  Some of the largest Murray Cod in the region are caught here at Copeton Waters.  
  • Sailing & boating: Copeton Waters has seven designated boat ramps located throughout the foreshore.  Catering for small outboards to large in-board skiing and wakeboard boats.  Copeton Dam is one of the largest in NSW, which means there is ample room to accommodate skiers and fisherman alike.
  • Water slide: Large twin waterslide is a must for all ages.  For those not so adventurous there is a small wading pool at the slide.
  • Golf Course & Tennis Courts; Located inside Copeton Waters State Park, there is a superb six hole golf course, two tennis courts and a volleyball court.
  • Water Skiing and water sports: The glassy waters of Copeton Dam is a water skiers paradise  providing fun and enjoyment for everyone.
  • Playgrounds & Walking trails: The Park offers a diversity of walk tracks, where cyclists and nature lovers can explore this piece of paradise. Numerous walk tracks around the dam, varying in distance from easy walking to the little more challenge.  Most with their own unique view of the dam.  
  • BBQ facilites: There are gas, electric and wood fire barbeques.  Also a large camp kitchen and shelter sheds with seating available, are located throughout the park

The Amenities contained within the park cater for day, overnight and long stay visitors.  The park boasts both standard and deluxe cabins, onsite vans, grassed powered and un-powered sites, and free form bush camping.  Amenities blocks are located throughout the park.  Full laundry facilities with dryers are available.  For school, social or seminar groups the park possesses a bunkhouse that sleeps 44 people.  The bunkhouse features a fully equipped kitchen and its own attached amenities block with disabled facilities.

The spectacular Administration Centre features a well appointed conference centre, a popular venue for small weddings, seminars, family reunions and other special occasions.The Northcott Centre Cafe located with the Administration Centre stocks groceries, fuel, gas, bait and lures.  Fishing licences are also available.  It also offers hot and cold lunches, morning and afternoon teas.
