Artesian water is up to two million years old and is known in many cultures to have healing powers. The mineral rich water flows from nearly a mile underground from the great Artesian Basin. Moree Plains has sub-artesian waters which reach natural temperatures of up to 41 degrees Celsius and were discovered years ago and have been used for their curative powers since ancient times.
The health giving waters that flow into the Pilliga Artesian Bore Baths have been doing so for well over a century. This facility is found just east of the village of Pilliga approximately 56 kilometres from Wee Waa. The water temperature is about 43 degrees Celsius. The Artesian Spa complex in Boomi consists of a hot Artesian spa pool, Artesian cold wading pool, and a cold Artesian half-size Olympic pool.
