This quiet country drive is a great diversion for the traveler who enjoys getting off the highways for a while.
It starts at Warialda, a small rural town that boasts Cranky Rock Reserve and arts and crafts located in an old historic house. The next stop, Coolatai, is a small town with rich fertile soil, perfect for grain growing, and people with easy country charm. Nearby Ashford offers fine fishing at Pindari Dam, and passes Kwiambal National Park with a waterfall and limestone caves. Final stop – Inverell, or the Sapphire City, boasts the Pioneer Village, Copeton Dam, wineries, transport museum, draught horses, sapphire centres, scenic lookouts, antiques and great fishing.
