Three New England Organisations were awarded recognition at the CountryLink Inland Tourism Awards held in Narrabri on Saturday night.
The Australian Railway Monument and Rail Journeys Museum at Quirindi won the Inland Champion Award. The Museum is housed in the historic Werris Creek Railway Station and is run by a team of 40 volunteers who man the museum from 10am to 4pm, 7 days a week. Allowing visitors to step back in time through a display of fascinating railway related artifacts and photographs the Museum depicts the history of rail from the age of steam through to the modern day diesel.
Other award winners were Fleet Helicopters in Armidale, which received an award of distinction in the Tour and/or Transport Operators category, and Moree Visitors Information centre, which was awarded an award of distinction in the Visitor Information and Services category.
New England North West Regional Tourism Organsation Executive Officer Stuart Allardice said winning the prestigious awards highlights the exciting experiences the region offers visitors.
“The region had very strong representation in the awards, from fifty-eight finalists, nine were from the New England North West region.
“All three New England North West winners offer unique experiences and high calibre service to visitors, resulting in their wins,” Mr Allardice said.
“It is not only award winners and finalists who should be congratulated, Narrabri did a fantastic job hosting the event which was attended by more than 200 guests.”
“The professionalism and the attention of detail proven by the team at Narrabri Visitor Information Centre positioned the New England North West particularly Narrabri as an ideal centre for conferences and events,” Mr Allardice said.
Winners of the awards have the opportunity and are encouraged to proceed to the NSW State Tourism Awards, and if successful to the national awards.
